November 24, 2020: ST. CHRYSOGONUS

November 24, 2020: COMMEMORATION OF ST. CHRYSOGONUS, MARTYR

This saint esteeming worldly joys, as pleasing cheats, deceitful toys, and bitter too with secret gall, nobly for heaven scorned them all.

Prayer (Collect).

Give ear, O God, to our prayers, that we, who in all humility acknowledge the guilt of our offences, may, by the prayers of blessed Chrysogonus, thy Martyr, be delivered from the burden of our sins. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

St. Chrysogonus was arrested at Rome in the persecution of Diocletian, and put in prison. St. Anastasia, a holy Roman lady, corresponded with him by letter, as to her conduct towards an unbelieving husband. He was conducted to Aquileja, where Diocletian then was, and was there executed. His head is shown enshrined in the church of his dedication at Rome, but his body is preserved at Venice.
